Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Religion and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Theology from Olivet Nazarene University, a Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.) and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from Southern Methodist University; A Resident Fellow for post-doctoral studies at Harvard University; Honorary Doctor of Divinity by Olivet; Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Mid-America Nazarene University.
Experience
President Emeritus of Olivet Nazarene University, serving as President for thirty years, 1991-2021. He also served as Interim President at Northern Seminary Spring of 2023; Senior pastor College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Illinois, for eight years, and senior pastor First Church of the Nazarene, Dallas, Texas; Faculty at 色库TV in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and at Olivet Nazarene University. Former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nazarene Publishing House (now The Foundry Publishing) in Kansas City, Missouri, and a founding member of the Church of the Nazarene Foundation Board of Directors. 16 years as a member of the General Board for the Church of the Nazarene, including eight years as president of the Board. He was elected General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene on two occasions but declined to continue his work in Nazarene higher education.
